A blood test or lab test allows us to learn information about your cat’s health which can only be found from collecting a sample of blood and having it analyzed.

Why are blood tests important for my cat’s health?

They are good screening methods used to prevent internal disease, look for trends and manage diseases your kitty may have (ex. diabetes or hyperthyroidism).

How long does it take to get blood test results?

Blood tests in the hospital take about 30-40 minutes to run, while blood tests to the lab can take 1-3 business days depending on which tests are run.

How should I prepare my cat for their blood tests?

Your veterinarian will help you to prepare for any necessary blood test based on the type of test required. Anti-anxiety medications may be recommended if your cat is very nervous in the hospital.

How often should blood tests be done?

Depending on which blood test is being conducted, adults should have blood work done once a year, and seniors have their bloodwork done every 6 months. Some blood tests to monitor medication levels or blood glucose will be done as needed for your cat’s condition.
